A Game-Changer for Stylists

Putting the stylist center stage by focusing on user experience during the recent rebuild of the Vish color management system has made it as much a game-changer for stylists as it has been for owners. But don’t just take our word for it. Compare notes with Salon Blonde stylist Modesty Meaker and her employer, owner Lora Powell.

Modesty Meaker – Salon Blonde Stylist – Spring Hill

At beauty school, Modesty was taught to measure and record color by using scales and then writing down the formula. She had no idea there was an alternative until she joined Salon Blonde three years ago. “What’s really great is that I’ve got this feeling now of being spoiled –  at school we had to write down every single formula and then manually put it in the computer.”

“It was almost impossible to customize colors because weighing wasn’t specific. With Vish 2.0 which is even easier to use than the original version, you can weigh to the tenth of a gram, making it easy to be exact, and you can save all those formulas without waiting for the computer or worrying you might lose it. From there you can change up the color for the season or go back to a shade the client loved. I definitely wouldn’t be doing as much custom color as I do without Vish.”

“The new Vish app is even better and more intuitive. I can check my formulas on my phone in advance and plan ahead if I know what my client wants. We can also monitor as we mix, as the new cost calculator feature calculates costs as you design your formulas. Our clients are quoted a cost range during the consultation, and I can keep an eye on it as I add color to make sure I’m within that price range. If it goes a bit over, I can warn the client, making sure there’s no shock for them at the end of the appointment. Our clients really like the customized pricing.”

Built for a seamless workflow

“It’s also easier to actually build the formula. Before, you had to use the search bar more frequently. Now, with Vish 2.0 everything is more categorized and intuitive. For instance, if you’re looking for a lightener, they are all in one spot. I really love the developer feature best as you don’t have to worry about forgetting to add it. You pick your colors and Vish prompts you with appropriate options. There is also a new feature where you can rebalance the formula if you accidentally dispense a few ounces over – it’s that easy. Vish 2.0 makes it all super seamless.”

Injecting direct revenue into the business

An early adopter of Vish, Lora Powell immediately recognized how much of a game-changer it was for her salon and the industry.

“Vish is amazing. I love it so much, especially now with the upgraded Vish 2.0 dashboard making it even easier to monitor color use and charges. From the start, Vish was life-changing for our business, and I think it’s industry-changing. It allowed me to switch from the old way of doing business to a parts and labor model, which was a direct revenue injection into my business. It takes an item that was a hard cost coming directly off of your profit and turns it into a line item that is actually generating revenue for your business.”

Over the past couple of months at our Spring Hill location, we’ve had around $22,000 worth of product charges every month, while at our Columbia location, which is newer and smaller, it’s between $8,000 and $8,500 worth of charges every month. It’s a significant amount of additional revenue, and you can mark up the color to cover the cost or part of the cost of foils, gloves, or other service supplies. For example, lightener is a very low-cost product - you could increase your margin here slightly. It’s totally customizable.”

“I’m convinced Vish also builds more loyalty and respect from our guests because they understand more of what we do and how we charge. When a stylist tells a guest they need highlights and a tip-out or a shadow root, or perhaps a gloss and a glaze sometimes the guest might not appreciate the work and product required to achieve that result. But they understand ‘parts and labor’ pricing. When their charge is broken down to show what the service and the products cost they understand the knowledge and expertise that we have and the physical activity it takes. They also know that they are only paying for how much color they need. They like the transparency.”

“Unquestionably, Vish helps reduce over-mixing. If everybody adopted Vish, it would slash waste, which would be great for our environment, but also for our bottom line and our industry as a whole,” says Lora. To learn more about how Vish can boost your bottom line, book a call with our team today.
