ABOUT ASYLUM HAIR AND BEAUTY
I have been hairdressing now for around 18 years dare I say. I started in just a local salon to where I lived learning all of the basics and always had that hunger for more education that the majority of hairdressers have. I then moved to a few different salons until I came to one that worked with Paul Mitchell products. This allowed me to then apply to be part of Paul Mitchell’s global education team to which I got onto after a long factor like application and spent 2 years educating for them. I then went onto working for myself with an aim to open my own salon, which I did in 2018.
I never wanted Asylum to be just your average hair salon. I started with the purpose of being cruelty free, vegan, gender neutral and sustainable with a push towards finding anything I could to help towards a sustainable workplace. We became one of the first salons to become paper free with all of our client records, and using apps for colour and skin testing such as Consult by Timely that syncs with our system, which then lead the way to finding Vish, the perfect system to simultaneously measure our colour and update records while helping us to stop using so much colour, reducing salon costs by a massive amount and saving the amount of chemicals being sent to waste bins or being washed into water supplies.
I ploughed the profit into education, including extension training, which has helped grow our business. Squeezing more profit from colour also means I’ve been able to avoid compromising services or being forced into crazy price rises. After the disaster of COVID and the rising cost of absolutely everything in the salon, Vish has helped us retain and grow our clientele.
